MATHAAR DINING TABLE

This 6 seater dining table in brass and reclaimed teak wood is handcrafted traditionally, in a contemporary architectural form. Traditionally, utilitarian brass vessels used in Indian homes were handcrafted by a craft-community called the Thatheras. This craft is dying because these beautiful brass vessels have become redundant over time. We worked with the few craftspeople still practicing the craft to develop this collection. Our intention was to preserve and revivie the craft and its legacy, by re-envisioning the skills in new forms, as furniture. The brass components in this collection are handcrafted. The wooden tops are also handcrafted from reclaimed teak from demolished traditional Pol houses in Gujarat. Each teak top is seasoned and aged, and has a beautiful grain pattern.
