The Grid Tube Chandelier is one of Rhizome's earliest and most recognisable work in lighting design. Handcrafted from bamboo pipes arranged within a simple grid, the collection explores repetition, proportion, and the quiet beauty of a single material. Assembled from hundreds of individual elements, each installation possesses a remarkable sense of lightness despite its scale.
For the Kamala Foundation's store at the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad, the chandelier was reworked specifically for the building's double-height volume. Its proportions were carefully developed to draw the eye upward while providing practical illumination for the retail space below. The suspended grid creates a luminous ceiling that defines the volume without overwhelming the architecture.
Designed for a public space with constant footfall, the lighting was engineered for straightforward maintenance and long-term durability. The result is a bespoke installation that extends the language of the original collection while responding precisely to the needs of its setting.
