Commissioned by Quest Alliance for Chili Pili Loka, an open learning and cultural space in Bengaluru, this bespoke bamboo installation reinterprets the organisation's avian emblem as an immersive architectural gesture. Rather than reproducing the logo, the work distils its essence into a fluid sculptural form that reflects the openness, creativity, and exchange that define the space.
Responding to the constraints of a low ceiling, the installation unfolds as a series of sweeping parametric curves that maximise volume while maintaining a remarkably light visual presence. Composed of individually hand-bent bamboo slats and suspended using finely crafted solid brass components, the work balances digital precision with material warmth, allowing structure, light, and craftsmanship to become inseparable.
Conceived through computational design and realised entirely by hand, the installation continues Rhizome's exploration of the dialogue between emerging technologies and artisanal knowledge. As digital intelligence reshapes the possibilities of design, the studio remains interested in the role of the artisan—not as a custodian of the past, but as an active collaborator in shaping the future of contemporary Indian collectible design.
