The Lota collection spotlights the lota, an iconic and quintessentially Indian product. Traditionally, lotas and other utilitarian brass vessels used in Indian homes are crafted by metal craftspeople called Thatheras. This craft is dying because these beautiful brass vessels have become redundant over time. We worked with the few craftspeople still practicing the Thathera craft to develop this collection. Our intention was to preserve and revivie the craft and its legacy, by re-envisioning the lota and other vessels of its genre, as furniture. The brass components in this collection are handcrafted. The wooden tops are also handcrafted from reclaimed teak from demolished traditional Pol houses in Gujarat. Each teak top is seasoned and aged, and has a beautiful grain pattern.
