The Quest Alliance team approached Rhizome with a clear vision: to create an installation inspired by their logo for Chili Pili Loka, an open learning space in Koramangala, Bangalore. As Rhizome delved into the project, they discovered the rich, multitasking essence of the space—housing a stage, a pizza oven, and a cultural hub. This creative vibrancy resonated deeply with the team, inspiring them to design a parametric bamboo installation that reflects the abstract bird form of the Quest Alliance logo.

Given the constraints of a low ceiling, the installation was crafted to be almost flat, but the design’s undulating curves maximize the available space, creating a dynamic visual experience. True to Rhizome’s sustainability ethos, the form is suspended using pure brass fixtures, avoiding the environmental complications that come with plating processes.

The result is a harmonious blend of bamboo, Bangalore’s spirit, and the symbolism of a bird. The bamboo installation for Chili Pili Loka is a striking synergy between advanced parametric design and traditional craftsmanship. Each bamboo slat was meticulously bent by hand, then assembled according to a design developed through sophisticated software. The softly rolling lines of the installation elegantly incorporate lighting fixtures, while the handcrafted pure brass components add a touch of bespoke luxury.

This installation is not just a visual centerpiece but a testament to the fusion of technology, sustainability, and artisanal skill.

CARE GUIDE

BAMBOO: Treat bamboo like you would wood. Do not leave it in rain or harsh sunlight. Covered balconies and outdoor sit-outs are fine. Cracking in bamboo is completely normal, as it is a natural material, and it generally won't affect the structural integrity. We are happy to repair and repolish your piece for as long as you own it, on request.

BRASS: Clean with a moist towel and dry promptly. Avoid direct heat or sunlight exposure. Polish as required.
