When Studio Urbscapes approached Rhizome to design an installation for the Shreyas Foundation, the team immediately knew they had to say yes. The resulting installation features striking aluminium Sarus birds, each crafted from a single sheet of metal. This mono-material approach, free of welds, simplifies recycling and aligns perfectly with Rhizome’s commitment to sustainability. Aluminum, known for its recyclability, ensures that the end-of-life processing is straightforward, particularly since the birds are composed of a single material. The team was meticulous in selecting materials that resist tarnishing, ensuring longevity with minimal maintenance. This attention to detail extends even to the materials hidden from view, such as those submerged in water, continuously supporting the structure. The birds' surfaces remain uncoated, except for an anodized pop of colour on the aluminium, reflecting Rhizome’s minimalist ethos—paring everything down to conserve energy and resources.

CARE GUIDE

1.Treat bamboo like you would wood. Do not leave in rain or harsh sunlight: over balconies and outdoor sit-outs are fine. 2. Cracking of bamboo is completely normal as it is a natural material, however, it won't impact the structural integrity. 3. The color of the rope may vary since we use upcycled textile ropes 4. We can customize the structure and weave color on request. 5. We are happy to freshen up your piece in terms of refinishing and reweaving for as long as you have it on request.
