Developed as a monumental extension of Rhizome's Bend lighting collection, this bespoke bamboo installation draws formal inspiration from the woven fish traps of Northeast India—objects whose ingenuity has evolved over generations. Their fluid geometry, structural efficiency, and rhythmic repetition are reinterpreted at an architectural scale, revealing the enduring sophistication of a vernacular form.
Conceived through digital modelling and realised entirely by hand, the installation reflects Rhizome's belief that technology and craftsmanship are complementary forces. Computational tools enabled the complexity of the form, while its material expression emerged through the judgement, precision, and artistry of the craftspeople who bent, assembled, and refined every individual bamboo slat.
As the boundaries between digital intelligence and human craftsmanship continue to evolve, Rhizome is interested in the possibilities that emerge when the two work in concert. Rather than replacing the hand, technology becomes another instrument through which craftsmanship can be extended, challenged, and reimagined—opening new directions for contemporary Indian collectible design.

BAMBOO: Treat bamboo like you would wood. Do not leave it in rain or harsh sunlight. Covered balconies and outdoor sit-outs are fine. Cracking in bamboo is completely normal, as it is a natural material, and it generally won't affect the structural integrity. We are happy to repair and repolish your piece for as long as you own it, on request.
BRASS: Clean with a moist towel and dry promptly. Avoid direct heat or sunlight exposure. Polish as required.
