LOTA COAT STAND

The Lota coat stand highlights various types of lotas, an iconic and quintessentially Indian product. The lota is being used less frequently, and the craft of making such utilitarian vessels is dying. We look at reviving the craft and the legacy, by re-envisioning and scaling-up the lota  as a piece of furniture. The stand's base is a hand-hammered lota handcrafted by Thathera craftspeople. The table top and the knobs are crafted from reclaimed teak wood. The teak is sourced from demolished traditional Pol houses in Gujarat, which is why it is very seasoned and has a beautiful grain pattern.
